It was dark; they were scared and were unable to locate the emergency release. From outside the trunk, someone heard their cries for help and was able to coach them to freedom.

It was dark; they were scared and were unable to locate the emergency release. From outside the trunk, someone heard their cries for help and was able to coach them to freedom.
The coach was able to help because she had a different perspective. She had a vantage point separate from the confined space, she could see from the outside what could not be seen from the inside, even though the emergency release was there all along.
This perspective is what ultimately sets the person in the trunk free.
